Our second biggest attraction in the Smoky Mountains (besides the Smokies themselves) is the incredible and inimitable Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. They became our iconic playground and music venue not just for its official ties to Dolly Parton, but because each year it goes to major lengths to prove it is the best attraction in East Tennessee. Each year from the first week of January to midway through March, Dollywood closes down and begins setting up changes for the new operating season beginning the aforementioned mid-March.
This year, we’re looking forward to the following additions for the 2018 operating season. which Dollywood is promoting as a “Season of Showstoppers”. First up will be the perennial favorite “Festival of Nations” with newcomer Ladysmith Black Mambazo (who famously performed with Paul Simon during tours for his “Graceland” album) and the Spring Concert series which have special guest music acts performing on park such as Amy Grant, T.G. Sheppard, The Drifters, the Marshall Tucker Band and more. Summer will also showcase new talents and shows around the park and the Great Pumpkin LumiNights, first introduced in 2017, will return to build on their success in 2017 come the 2018 Halloween.
There’s no word yet on any new rides that will open at Dollywood for this year. More often than not, a new ride either big or small opens up at the park, but other years a new venue or different type of development becomes the big new addition at Dollywood. Also no word yet on any new developments from Dolly’s Splash Country, but they’re also quite diligent about yearly additions, so we’re sure to hear from them in time.
